TSF Congratulates Tuscaloosa Magnet School and Dr Kim Bissell

"Thanks to the generous donations and support from many in the Tuscaloosa Community, close to 80 children in the Tuscaloosa Magnet Running Club recently participated in the Kids Mercedes Marathon.  The kids marathon is a cumulative marathon, which requires them to run 25.2 miles over the course of two months. At the end of the running period, the children then run the last mile of the marathon, and each participant is given the opportunity to cross the marathon finish line and receive a medal. Through the generous donations and support of many in the community- race registrations, transportation costs, and race T-shirts were provided to the runners. The running program has enabled children, many of whom are at-risk for childhood obesity, to become active and experience success first-hand in health-related fitness. The running program has been embraced by the entire Tuscaloosa Magnet School, with every single child in elementary school running at least 25.2 miles over the last few months. We look forward to continued involvement in local 5k races and kids' races because of your generosity. I extend a special thank you to the sponsors and donors for their support."

James Robinson of West Alabama Family Practice and Sports Medicine is negotiating a new sponsorship with the Tuscaloosa Sports Foundation. Past events were successful and they are there to provide care to the athletes that the Foundation brings to Tuscaloosa.

"We have known Coach Staley since his days as soccer coach at the University. Our practice is all about taking care of athletes and we found that the Tuscaloosa Sports Foundation is a great organization to bring more athletes to our area. We got involved for the Super Six since we take care of numerous high school football teams in the area and are the Team Physicians for the University. We are usually on the sidelines every Friday night taking care of injured athletes and this just seemed like a perfect fit that we thought we could help out. We are also covering the State Junior College Basketball tournament that the Foundation is working with, so this also seemed like a perfect fit. We have been taking care of athletes in the West Alabama area for more than 20 years and feel our expertise and knowledge could only enhance these events that the Sports Foundation is bringing to the city."
